Majo Portilla

From Latin America to The Netherlands.

But at home everywhere.

If I’m painting, I’m happy. My travels take me to some of the world’s most incredible places and I’m blessed to have the opportunity to meet people from all different cultures and share my art with them. Whether I’m there on assignment, or just exploring on my own, I try to convey feelings through colours.

My work has been sold to art enthusiasts from all over the world, Art Fairs and in Auctions to support charities such as Fe y Alegria (El Salvador), ISA’s Maasae Tanzania Project, Japan Relief fund, and Habitat for Humanity (Project Romania and Hungary).

Mauritius International Art Fair, Carrousel du Louvre Contemporary Art Fair, Fira Internacional d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, Art Connects Women Dubai, Museo Diffuso Contemporaneo, Museo Internazionale Italia Arte, Artist 360 Madrid, Art Expo Algarve and the Museum of the Americas have propelled my artwork to diverse markets throughout the globe.

In between trips, I teach acrylic and oil, wherever I find myself based. Now I call home Hilversum, The Netherlands. You can visit my gallery at Havenstraat 4, Hilversum where you can see some of my current artwork.

I also sell through my Instagram Shop, that ships all over the world. NFT’s are being sold at OpenSea Majo Portilla Art and ZeeArts Online Gallery, whom organised my first exhibition in the UAE in 2019. Don’t hesitate to PM if you have any questions and/or you’re interested in acquiring one my pieces.

For 20 years now, Majo Portilla from the Netherlands has been painting across the globe, from Amsterdam, Guatemala, USA and Basel to Dubai now where she currently resides. With a wealth of experience accrued over her travels, she channels them into her bold semi-abstract pieces that commands the vibrancy of her artistic career.

With oil and acrylics as her core painting mediums, Majo assesses the human condition and draws out the inner beauty and strengths of her subjects. Often clad in intricately textured outfits, her figures are mostly devoid of any facial features, prompting her viewers to look not at the surface, but introspectively at the qualities of the mental and emotional states.”

“Majo Portilla is a Dutch citizen of Hispanic origin currently residing in Dubai. I met her for the first time in November 2019 in Dubai when she was selected by the Museum of the Americas (Established in Miami, Florida in 1991), of which I am its Director, to participate in an individual exhibition in that city.

She who has extensive curriculum has been showing for more than 20 years her artworks at different locations all over the world. Her works are comprised of figurative and abstract periods.

Although her paintings are spontaneous, differing in concept, style and theme, she is still able to project a restless spirit that is not detained by time or adversity.

Portilla is a clear example of tireless artistic work. Each piece deserves the analysis and thoughtfulness of the observer. Her sincerity and devotion to the arts and culture has no limit.”
